In addition to my professional growth at Southwest airlines, the flexibility that Southwest Airlines provided also allowed me the opportunity to learn and grow academically. In January of 2006, I returned to college—in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. And thankfully, after 6 years of juggling family, work, and school, I graduated from Northern Arizona University in December of 2011. Over those 6 years, I met some great friends and fellow classmates. The college experience, although not a typical one, was enlightening and rewarding in so many ways. It wasn't until July of 2013 that I delved into the teaching profession. I accepted a Kindergarten position with Roosevelt Elementary school in Mesa, AZ. Although I enjoyed many aspects of teaching, I returned back to Southwest Airlines at full-time status, in the Spring of 2014. Sadly, I realized that I could not afford to leave my secure job--which included a very generous health and benefits package-afforded to me by my then employer of 27 years!
Having spent just ONE year in the education profession was an eye-opener to me and my family. As we began to see how much need there Really Is for dedicated and due-diligent teachers--to both teach and inspire our their students!
With that said... I would like to give a huge "Shout Out" to all of our educators, for all of their time and effort in educating our future generations! ♥️👏🏻
